We will be using the flyer daily. For a regular 5-day week, we will be tested on Fridays. STUDENTS MAY USE THEIR FLYER AND INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS.
We read/discuss/highlight daily. Everyone should be using their code to see flyer online. We will use Brainpop and videos that relate to material.
Week 1: Geography: Continents and Oceans.
Week 2: Flyer quiz on Geography
Week 3: Interactive Notebooks: Compass Rose, Latitude and Longitude Powerpoint
week 4: "Tennessee's First People" : What were 2 important parts of Cherokee daily life? Explain why this is important. Red leader/white leader; growing crops, hunting food, building canoes, children became part of the mother's clan.
How do archaeological digs help people learn about the past? Explain what they find and how it is useful. They find bones, tools, mounds, jewelry, pottery , etc. These artifacts tell what an area may have been used for, how people survived with food and shelter, religious beliefs and recreational activities that were part of a tribe's way of life.
Week 5: Choose one of the countries in this week's Studies Weekly and write a paragraph about their exploration of the New World. Look in flyer under England's Chance, Spain Sends More Explorers, or France Takes a Turn to copy your answer.
How did the Age of Discovery Change Maps? (look under "Mapping the Age of Discovery"): The Age of Discovery changed world maps for good. European mapmakers got new information about the world from explorers and sailors and were able to fill in the blank spaces on their maps. Today's maps include a grid system with lines of longitude and latitude that makes locating specific information on a map easier.
Week 6: Should Mel Fisher have given his treasure to Spain? Explain your thinking.
Which areas of the United States did the Spanish explore in the 1500's? southeast, southwest and the Mississippi River region (states- FL, GA, AL, MS, TX,AZ,NM)
